Summer Brights

May 31, 2015

I have been out of town this week attending an Indian summer wedding. This is an outfit that I wore on one of the particularly hot and bright days. I thought this outfit was great because it has bright pops of every colour that would remind you of summer. Indian weddings have decorations that are usually packed with brilliant colours and I thought this outfit complimented the theme.

I went for a minimal jewellery look with only one statement necklace and a statement clutch because the top is already so bright and overpowering. I love multi coloured pieces sometimes because it goes well with nude accessories and something more colour coordinated as the options become much wider. The mint loafers and red velvet clutch went with my favourite colours from the top. The neutral black pleated Salwar bottoms ties together the entire look and balances out the brights.

Review : Iraya Manjistha Eye Contour Gel

May 18, 2015

Hey there!

This week has been really long and busy. Since I have my holidays now, I have been busy cleaning up, organizing and making plans with my friends and family. I have a new review for you guys! It is Iraya's Manjistha Eye Contour Gel. I got this product in my April Fab Bag and I used it for the past week or so every single night before going to bed. I think I sort of have an idea of what I feel about the product or what it does for me. So it is the ideal time to write a review on it.

What the product says :

Easy to use, nutrient-rich eye care in a gel form. With the extracts of Indian madder(manjistha) and lavender essential oil, helps cool the eyes, reduce puffiness and swelling, minimize dark circles and fine lines. Regular use protects and brightens the eye area.

Ingredients List :

RUBIA CORDFOLIA, BERBERIS ARISTATA, ALOE INDICA, VEGETABLE GLYCERINE, CELLULOSE GUM, XANTHAN GUM, CITRUS GRANDIS, PHENOXYETHANOL, ESSENTIAL OILS OF LAVENDER.

Quantity: 20 grams.

Price: Rs 350/-

My Review:

I love trying out under eye products because I do get puffy eyes and also have bad under eye circles because I don't sleep too much.( Typical college student) I am also really cautious and scared to try out these eye products because I have really sensitive skin and the skin under our eyes is probably the most sensitive parts of our bodies. This particular eye gel comes in a really cute glass jar with a metal screw on lid. It is deep burgundy in colour and feels like jello in a jar. I can only imagine how this'll feel if it is stored in the refrigerator. The minute I opened the jar, a really strong, ayurvedic scent filled the room. So it has a really strong, herbal scent to it but it disappears after the initial application.

Pros :

1. Really sturdy glass jar packaging which is also looks cute with my makeup collection.

2. The price is economical. Most eye creams/gels start from Rs 500 and go upto 2000 or even more if you're looking at high end brands.

3. It is really cooling under the eyes and I love that aloe is one of the ingredients which is very good for sensitive skin or just all skin types in general.

4. Comes in a decent sized packaging which is also travel friendly.

5. It quickly absorbs into the skin and the strong herbal scent disappears once applied and blended.

6. It is amazing with puffiness. There was one night this week when I got only 4 hours of sleep when I decided to use this before going to bed and I looked quite fresh the next morning.

Cons:

1. It doesn't help with dark circles at all. It is still understandable since dark circles aren't something that can be treated with a short term use of a product or sometimes it cannot be treated at all(when it is due to genetics). However it can be minimized, like it says in the description of the product so it isn't misleading.

2. The scent is a bit too strong and since you're putting it on your face, some people might not be too fond of it. It is probably the manjistha which imparts it's herbal scent. It is easy to get used to after a few uses.

So it is a good eye gel if you want to try out something but don't want to shell out a lot of money for an eye product. It's texture sort of reminds me of the garnier eye roll on which was one of my favourite products and the cooling sensation is comparable to that. I wish this came with the metal roller type packaging. That would be amazing.

Rating:
6.5/10

That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed this review.

Have a nice day!

The Spring Tag

May 14, 2015

Hey there!

I came across this Spring Tag on Molly Mac's blog here and I thought it was a really fun tag for the spring time as I haven't done any tags on this blog yet. This is going to be my first and I'm so excited to do this. I am sitting here sipping my Cappuccino and biting into my glazed donut as I answer these lovely questions. Let's get into this Spring appreciation post.

1. What three colors remind you of spring?
White, Nudes and Pastel Pink.

2. What is the first thing you add to your spring wardrobe?
I added a new midi bodycon dress and some cutout sandals to my wardrobe recently.

3. What are your ultimate nude and bright lipsticks?
Ultimate Bright is Maybelline Lip Polish in Pop6.
Ultimate Nude is Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Peach.

4. What is your signature spring fragrance?
I am a fresh fruity scents person so I like any fragrance with hints of orange, grapefruit, sandalwood and musk.

5. What do you add or drop from your skin care routine?
I would add a sunscreen with a higher SPF than I usually use. I will be changing up my shower cream for a fresher scent and I'd drop the body butters I've been using during the past couple of months.

6. Do you change your hair up in spring?
Yes I do but usually they are subtle changes. However this Spring I decided to get a bob haircut. I basically took off 10 inches of my hair and I am quite happy with the new look.

7. Are there any exciting beauty releases that you can’t wait for?
I am looking forward to trying the Blueberry Range at The Body Shop and the Loreal Paris Color Riche Les Vernis Top Coats - tweed glitters.

10. Is there anything you’re looking forward to this spring?
I really want to try out the Co- Ords trend this spring. I have been seeing them everywhere and looking for a perfect pair for me.

I hope you enjoyed reading that! I tag anyone who would like to do the tag.

Have a lovely day!

The Soundtrack of my Life

May 3, 2015

Hey there!

Believe it or not, everyone has a playlist of songs that cheer us up, bring some tears, smiles and old memories back. Being the crazy movie and Tv show geek that I am, I love discovering new songs on soundtracks and indie artists. I keep making these playlists from time to time and update my massive lists with new favourites. Each of these remind me of a  famous movie scene or a character I loved. This is a playlist that describes my life very well, the lyrics are something I can relate to and I have loved them these past couple of years.

This is a playlist of my 14  favourite songs from 14 of my favourite movies and their soundtracks. You should consider watching the movies that I'll mention below because they're fabulous. Let me take you on a journey from the 20's to 2014.

The tracks are listed down below in no particular order. Please note : The order in the playlist is shuffled everytime you play it.

1.Elvis Costello - She from Notting Hill.
Who doesn't love the lovely combo of Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant? Another make-you-smile, American meets Brit and make a beautiful love story. This song plays in the much satisfying finale of the film.

2. Laslo Bane - I'm no Superman from SCRUBS.
The opening theme song of one of my favourite shows from the 2000s which has stuck with me till today. I couldn't resist the geeky John Dorian and all the #friendshipgoals moments between JD and Turk.

3. Fermo Dante Machetti - Fascination from Love in the Afternoon.
An old age film from the 50's and probably one of Audrey Hepburn's well known films but a lot of people might have never seen it but you may have heard of this beautiful waltz song. She dances with her much older love interest to this song in the afternoons in Paris.

4. Tom Odell - Long Way Down from A Fault in Our Stars.
Honestly if it weren't for tragic love stories and coming of age movies, I wouldn't have heard of this guy on my own. This song plays in the background as Augustus and Hazel sit on their swing set and Hazel calls herself a grenade.

5.  Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - Falling Slowly from Once.
The famous musical and film is a John Carney indie masterpiece. (Begin Again being another one of his recent films). This is based on similar lines as Begin Again, about finding a beautiful connection through music . Falling Slowly is the most famous song the duo sings together on screen.

6. Henri Mancini/ Audrey Hepburn - Moon River from Breakfast at Tiffany's.
The Cult favourite movie - Breakfast At Tiffany's and it's cult favourite - 'Moon River' is something I couldn't have left out of this playlist. Two Audrey movie songs in a playlist ( I can see the patterns of an 1950s obsessed soul)

7. The Remembrandts - I'll be there for you from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
Chandler.Joey.Ross.Monica.Rachel.Phoebe. Enough said? The theme song which everybody and their pets love!

8. Idina Mendel - Let it go from Frozen.
It became quite a chart topper for quite a long time when this successful Disney Musical that has become everyone's favourite. We cannot wait for the sequel!

9. Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen from Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Another great indie movie based on a great book. However we do see Emma Watson in a quite different challenging role. This upbeat song is what the bro-sis duo perform their unusual dance sequence careless about what people think.

10. Frank Sintra - It had to be you from When Harry met Sally.
A jazz classic from the maestro himself. If you love rom-coms and sappy ones at that, you must be familiar with this song. I like how this makes me feel. Such a nostalgic melody.

11. Maroon 5 - Sunday Morning from Love Actually.
This film makes my Top 10 Christmas movies list and I particularly love Adam Levine's versatile voice in the song. A happy song in all respects.

12. Counting Crows - Accidentally in Love from Shrek 2.
The Dreamworks film series which broke all stereotypes about beautiful princesses and prince charmings being the only characters that can make it to an animated love story. I adore this film and The Counting Crows ever since I went through a country phase in my teenage years.

13.Simple Minds - Don't You from The Breakfast Club.
The 90's high school film which ranked head to head with other hits namely Clueless, Mean Girls and the likes. The ending song that continues into the credits is this really famous song.

14. Stephane Wrembel - Bistro Fada from Midnight in Paris.
Last but not the least, this has to be a special song from my all time favourite movie and from Woody Allen as well, whose films are so artsy and I love them beyond death. This classic piece will take you back to the French Riviera in the 20s.

I really hope you enjoy this and let me know your favourite song and scene from my playlist.
