Homecoming Essentials

September 9, 2015

Homecoming is an American tradition of welcoming back old students and freshmen for a new school year and also to make students feel more involved with school events. I have never really had a Homecoming Dance per say but my University has held similar dances which I have been a part of and enjoyed the whole ordeal of dressing up.
I have always been intrigued with Proms and Homecoming because of my obsession with watching high school films growing up and our dances have never been as big as the ones in the States with the well planned proposals and everything. A lot of people are already going back to school or will be in the coming few weeks with very little time left to prepare for the upcoming Homecoming Dance. So here’s a check list of things and ideas to consider for this year.

The Dress:
I was contacted by the website Rosa Novias which sells beautiful dresses for every occasion. They are all hand made dresses and hence they are much more unique compared to any clothing store. I was specially drawn to their special occasion dresses collection which had a good selection of Homecoming dresses.  I know that buying these dresses can be an expensive affair and having more than a few options is a good call for anyone considering to invest $100 or more for the occasion. They are based in the UK but ship their dresses worldwide. They do initiate full refund if your package happens to get lost during shipping. You can read their complete Returns Policy on the website. They also specialize in wedding dresses and wedding party dresses. There are three pieces I absolutely loved from the website.

1. This one has a really interesting modern looking neckline with an orchid silhouette. I love the front detail and the asymmetrical edge which almost makes it look like a two piece. This dress will look fabulous if you want to show some legs with a sexy slit.

2.This second dress is an adorable vintage looking dress with a sweetheart neckline and an embellished lace corset like bodice. I love the tulle bottom giving the dress some flare and a sweet 60's look. This is the dress I would definitely choose for myself if I was going to Homecoming.

3. The third and last one is again in white and this one is the ultimate Diva dress. It has a highly embellished sweetheart neckline as well but the bottom is what makes it more special. The deep Angelina Jolie slit looks stunning on taller girls who want to accentuate their long legs.

Hair:
1. Celtic Knot Half up half down :
This hairstyle has a nice easy bohemian vibe to it with it's large bouncy waves and also really easy to recreate. If you can't do it yourself, you can ask a friend for some help. The tutorial can be found on the link below.

2. Pull Through Braid:
This one is a very sophisticated looking bun, an interesting take on the classic french twist. The end result can be styled super put together or more loose as you like.

Make-Up:
A lot of people prefer to get their makeup done by someone so they can avoid the hassle of wasting time or making mistakes. However, if you plan to do your own makeup there are somethings you need to keep in mind.
The key to good, long lasting homecoming makeup or any dance for that matter is putting on a face primer, a high coverage foundation, eyeshadow primer and a good makeup setting spray to go with it. The eyes can be done in many different ways.
A shimmer/bronzy Paegent look goes with a lot of dresses (especially like the ones I've mentioned above) or a Neutral Smokey Eye looks very put together with a dark autumn lip colour. The new trend right now is Strobing and it can give you a nice, glowy look for the photographs.

What’s in your clutch?

  1.  Lipstick/Lipgloss – The lip colour you are wearing for the night for touchups after you drink and eat(or kiss).
  2.  Pepper Spray – This one’s the ‘me being a granny’ item which every girl needs to have in their bag during night outs especially in a new location or school where you might meet a lot of new people who can’t be entirely trusted.
  3. Perfume Roll On – You will be thankful to have this towards the middle of the event when you’ve been dancing with loads of other people and starting to get sweaty in your dresses.
  4.  Medicines – Another safety measure for sudden headaches or nausea. You don’t want to go around a loud party asking people for medicine if you were happen to need it.
  5. Other essentials – Gums, Hair ties, mini hair brush( if you can fit one in), makeup blotting sheets and a portable charger for your phone.

That's all for this post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and find it useful if you're going to homecoming this fall or just about any dance in your school.
