No Bake Candy Cane Truffles Recipe
December 24, 2015 • recipe
Good evening!
I have a surprise recipe post on the blog, something I've never experimented with before on here. Here are some 'No Bake' last minute Candy Cane truffles and as the name suggests they are coated with white chocolate and with an added minty peppermint taste. These are the perfect little sweets to nibble on during Chritsmas, when you have guests over or simply because you're craving something sweet. They are really easy to make, not too expensive and you can get loads of them made without losing time in baking, cooling and the whole process. Of course you can always buy truffles from the store, but this one's a fun recipe to make alone or with someone.
Instructions:
1. Add the flour, cake mix, sugar, butter, salt and vanilla/peppermint extract to a bowl and mix them together with a spoon.(You can also melt candy canes and use instead of peppermint extract if you want.) As it starts to form a dough like texture, use your hands to knead the dough well. Take your time with this step because it's what it'll make or break the taste of your truffles.
2. Make little truffle balls from the dough and keep them in the fridge to cool for 45 minutes.
3. Once they are cooled in the fridge and hardened, heat up your white chocolate by placing it in a bowl over a pan of water at medium heat on your gas. Keep stirring the chopped chocolate till it melts completely.
4.Pop in the balls one by one and cover them generously in the white chocolate. Pick them up with a teaspoon and keep them on a separate plate quickly before the white chocolate layer hardens on it.
5.Put all your truffles in little truffle cases from your local departmental store and sprinkle some crushed candy cane on top for some added minty taste!
I kept them in the fridge for another 10-15 minutes so that they completely harden with the white chocolate and then you're done!! Enjoy!
Red Suede Pinafore
December 21, 2015 • fashion, seventies
I feel like Red Suede is so underated as I've been mostly seeing it's mustard and brown variants in most stores but I couldn't help myself when I saw this pretty suede pinafore dress with the seventies style pockets and all that jazz. The fact that it's a playsuit makes it even more jazzier because it is so comfortable without having to worry about anything. I like to call them 'socially acceptable onesies' and that only explains why I need more of them in my wardrobe. I've paired it with my MISS SELFRIDGE ribbed, roll neck jumper which is probably the one thing that can look good on anybody. I'm so glad they're back in fashion! This outfit was made for a cold and windy December's day so I had my trusty opaque tights on with some black loafers and a matching black satchel both from FOREVER 21. I think investing in a Red suede piece be it a skirt, pants or even a pinafore dress is so appropriate for those who like transitional outfits because this shade of rusty red can be totally carried forward to summer sans the tights and maybe some platform sandals? I'll be letting you know if that turns out well.

Hello lovely people!
I am bringing to you a little Christmas/ New Year's Party attire ideas. The inspiration behind this post is the concept of a Capsule Wardrobe except it's the Party edition! I've a got a couple of dress/outfits rounded up of different styles and colours, sticking to the basic party colours that I personally prefer - Black, Gold and anything with a little bit of sparkle. There's a whole list of shoes and accessories to go with them and the whole idea is to make them interchangeable where the dresses can be paired with more than one pair of bags & accessories set out for them. I hope you enjoy reading this!

Fuzzy and Pink
December 9, 2015 • fashion
I've been enjoying the cold weather in the Himalayas for the past two weeks only because it's still autumnal( or I like to believe so) and not nearly as cold at all. The weather outside is really pleasant and a easy breezy but there's no way I can put on this Fuzzy Pink Jumper from DOROTHY PERKINS yet. I can't wait to put this on, come December/January when it is going to be finally acceptable to put it on. It's honestly the softies, loveliest and the fuzziest jumper I own and what's better about it, it's pink! I was definitely inspired by Carrie Bradshaw and Chanel Oberlin for this outfit because they do their fur coats and fuzzies so well.
The one solid colour jumper goes perfectly with this Baroque print pants from last year(when it was actually very trendy) and everyone was wearing a pair. I personally can't really be too bothered with the trends all the time so I had to get this one out of the closet and my trusty black boots from FOREVR21 to go with them. This one's a way to dress down fur coats and fuzzy jumpers for the daytime or a casual, chill day where all I did was admire the mountains and drink a lot of tea.

This one’s a little tribute all the lovely shows I started
watching one fine day, developed an interest and what do you know? A few
seasons later it has been cancelled with no reason and explanation. The show
comes abruptly to an end with no explanation whatsoever leaving burning
questions on my mind. Did my favourite character ever decide to go back home?
Did they have more kids? and the likes. Some hearts are shattered, some tears
are shed(as they make their parting episode extra emotional) and then we
literally move onto the next because of the emptiness every Tuesday night. Some
of these shows are easily forgotten and not heard of again(not even reruns?).This
list spans over a couple of years so it starts from back when I was only 15 to
the current year.
#1 Hart of Dixie –
This one goes first on the list because the
setting was perfect and the happiest, fuzziest thing to me. It was a show set
in a country town ( Southern U.S.A) called Bluebell where everyone had the best
country style honestly and their accents were to die for. The ladies were
primed, perfect and poised and the men so hot and the strong kind who can
possibly rodeo for real( or at least look like they do). They always had so
many festivals and events and those people sure took their town seriously and
it was the sweetest community I’ve ever seen on a show. They did have their
ocassional funny punches and of course, Rachel Bilson’s outfits were to die
for, who is actually a doctor on the show and comes to Bluebell from New York
and stands out from everyone else. It has been cancelled after four seasons but honestly
I’d re-watch them only for it’s cheesy and perfect at it.
#2 Bunheads –
This one was
shocker because it had one of
those abrupt endings and it seemed like
the writers weren’t expecting it to be cancelled and bam, it disappears with no
clear goodbye said. This one only ran for one season which breaks my heart
because I think it had the potential to be a good show in the future. This one
was based around a Las Vegas performer(Sutton Foster) who marries a guy while
she is drunk, who in turn introduces her to his mother, a very famous ballet
dancer in the past who runs a little ballet training class. She expresses her
old love for ballet and becomes a mentor for all the little ballet-loving,
inspiring high school girls of the town and their relationship develop into a
sweet and loving one. They also throw in some great ballet performances and
it’s sad to know that we never really come to know exactly how Michelle’s life
turned out.
Deborah Milano Gel Effect Nail Colours Review & Swatches
November 29, 2015 • beauty, makeup
I have added these new nail polishes to my vanity lately and I've been dying to talk about them. They are the Deborah Milano Gel effect Colore Extra Brilliante nail polishes. I got a little set of three because I found them with this cute little coin purse( which my Mom loves so I gladly gave it to her). What it basically says on their website is they are "Formulated for rich, full, even colour and a dazzlingly glossy finish, the product provides perfect coverage and a volumising “gel like” surface – without using UV light. Results? A picture-perfect high-gloss manicure that can be achieved effortlessly, from the comfort of home."
Let's be honest, I'm very lazy most of the time to go get a gel manicure done at the salon and I'll be happy enough to get a substitute at a lower cost that can be done without leaving the comfort of home(Hell, yes!). That being said, I don't think it can be actually compared to a salon gel manicure as it is with most drugstore products but it can come close and gets the job done much nicer than other normal nail polishes out there.

The finish, it's very glossy as promised and I think that's the main factor that drew me to these 8.5ml bottles. The set has 1 matte Pink shade , no. 22 and two shimmery ones - a red, no.08 and a gold, no.05. I was pleased with the glossiness of both, the matte and the shimmers. I'm usually fond of creamy mattes but I couldn't resist the festive red and gold combination for this time of the year. I think I'll be painting my nails many times with them in the coming month. The pink one can be a nice passover for the Spring of 16'.
The Himalayan Trail
November 24, 2015 • lifestyle, travel
The Himalayas |
I've been out and about in the Himalayas for the last week or so and that explains my absence from the blog for the period. Although I planned to blog while I was on the road but internet connectivity in these pristine mountains is sometimes not guaranteed. I did get some limited connectivity in the Hotel rooms that I stayed in but I spent most of the day outside and too exhausted when I got back to work on anything. Hence, I had to cease any posting and actually enjoyed my time there!
I have been a lover of mountains from a very young age and although I've grown up along the sea, I've still grown to love the mountains much more. I'm just like anybody else, coveting the uncovetable, something that I don't get to see enough of. My love for mountains has come a long way since reading children's stories about life in the mountains to wishing I can trek up these mountains one day.
Although we covered the meandering roads by car, looking at the drop below with awe as we made our way up was an experience of it's own. I visited the towns of Kullu and Manali which consisted of the adventure and sightseeing and the towns of Shimla and Kandaghat for mostly relaxation and temple visits. I've summed up some of the highlights of my trip to cherish and inspire more mountainous travel. We landed at the Kullu airport at around 8.30 in the morning and we were shuttled to our hotel in Manali in half an hour - forty five minutes. Manali had a day temperature of about 7 - 8 degrees when we stayed there and the night temperatures went down to about -3 degrees. The weather was absolutely lovely there with lots of lush, evergreen forests surrounding the place with the stark white mountain peaks in clear view making the sunrise and sunset absolutely breathtaking.
The little towns of Manali and Kullu are full of little shops, restaurants, tea houses and markets. The most famous things to buy there are the pashmina stoles, shawls and sweaters with a traditional woven print on them. The little markets also sell a lot of souvenirs and some great little cafes known for their marvelous North Indian food and desserts. The roads are mostly mountainous roads with little bits of colourful houses and religious places visible in the distance.
We visited this little Naggar Castle, a 30 minute drive away from Manali which was believed to be the home to the King years ago. It's made of wood and stone, which used to be a traditional method of building houses in the mountains. A stag head guards the castle which have some richly carved doors. The entire castle is surrounded with balconies which have access from every room of the house. The little cottage just across the courtyard, decorated with garlands used to be the temple, the place of worship.
70's Lace and Denim
November 8, 2015 • fashion, seventies
Hi there!
I'm back again with an outfit post as it's been a while since my last one because of the amount of work and examinations that I had to deal with for the last couple of weeks. I've finally been able to go out and take a lot of pictures for my blog. This one's a little seventies inspired outfit and I'm so happy that high necks or turtle necks are in at the moment but it was quite warm outside to be able to wear a jumper. So I opted for this lace high neck top with a classic button down denim skirt to make it a little easy-breezy. Honestly, white lace manages to look so feminine even with something a little bit on the masculine side like my boots.
I have my new favourite brown lace up boots on with some frilly white socks because I feel like they are the perfect boots that I own at the moment. The cut, the patent leather and the comfort is just too good to pass up when I'm doing something seventies inspired. My orange satchel is to add a little bit more colour to the otherwise neutral outfit and to go with my new everyday lip colour, Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick in M8 which is possibly the most beautiful autumnal orange/red. I feel like it could pass up as a dupe for NARS Geraldine which is a colour I've been coveting for a while now.

Maybelline Velvet Matte Liquid Lipsticks - Review & Swatches
November 4, 2015 • beauty
(Left: M1, Right: M8) |
I'm going to be reviewing these two new purchases that I recently made. Firstly, because liquid lipsticks are everywhere and secondly, when I saw my favourite drugstore brand, Maybelline get onto the bandwagon as well I had to pick up some and try for myself.
I got two shades, one of them being a more pinkier shade and another being a more corally, autumnal shade. They come in tubes of 5ml each.
A few things that I noticed about these liquid lipsticks are that they are of a very creamy consistency, almost feels like a hydrating lip balm and I wore no lip balm before wearing these and my lips still felt very hydrated throughout the day. They aren't drying like other liquid lipsticks which can be a bit of a issue in the drier months of winter. However, these do have a creamy sheen to it and don't look completely matte like a lot of them. If you're into that harcore matte look on your lips then stay away from these.
I don't seem to mind them much because extreme matte formulas settle onto the lines of my lips and I really like how comfortable these feel on my lips.
The one issue with these lipsticks are they are not very opaque and I don't know if it's just the colours I got, but I had to apply 2-3 coats to get the opacity I usually like on my lips. I would be interested to see how these look with a little bit dabbed onto my lips for a light stain. They last 2-3 hours very nicely and after that they do tend to move around a bit if you're eating or out in humid weather because of their creamy consistency. However they stain the lips very evenly and leave a nice flush of colour on the lips even after they've completely disappeared. I had a hard time to getting this stain off even with my makeup remover. The applicators on this are doefoot type applicators which are slightly conical to form a tip which help in application.
Indie Favourites 2015
October 28, 2015 • indie, mixtape, music
Photograph by Nan Palermo via Flickr
I finally dedicated some time to organizing my iTunes songs into playlists because the clean freak in me was starting to trouble me. All I did was get rid of duplicate tracks or stuff I don't listen to anymore or just didn't like from an album and decide to discard those so that some valuable space is freed on my phone. If you are an iPhone user too you know the pain of storage space because you're always downloading apps, games and own a ton of music like me.
Indie music is one of my favourite genres of music that I listen to. You can probably say it's all I listen to from the past few years especially on other mixtape apps, Youtube, Tv shows and movie soundtracks where Indie musicians usually collaborate on and SoundCloud. Anything chill, indie , a little folksy is my jam. There are tons of artists I'm loving this year. I thought I'll do an accumulation of all the tracks I've really loved in the past few months. Most of them are songs released in the last 2-3 years, some great jems that I've discovered this year. You can listen to the playlist below of all the tracks mention, particularly great for commute. Also note that the tracks get shuffled when you replay the playlist so they might not be in this particular order. Give them a listen if you're an indie lover or new to the genre!
Mixtape:
1.I Will Follow You Into The Dark - Death Cab for Cutie
2.If It Wasn't For You - Various Cruelties.
3.Flowers In Your Hair - The Lumineers.
4.Happy( Cover of Pharell William's song) - Foxes.
5.From Eden - Hozier.
6. Mess Is Mine - Vance Joy.
7.The River - Imagine Dragons.
8.The Last Unicorn - Passenger.
9.What You Know - Two Door Cinema Club.
10.Budapest - George Ezra.
11.High Hopes - Kodaline.
12.In The Long Run - The Staves.
13.Bright - Echosmith.
14.I Love You Will Sound The Same - Oh Honey.
15. The Wire - HAIM.
16. Say anything Tristan Prettyman.
17. Young - The Paper Kites.
18. Bloodstream - Stateless.
19.What A Good Woman Does - Joy Williams.

Hogwarts Haul
October 21, 2015 • lifestyle, literature
The things I got are a Hogwarts Diary with a beautiful metal engraved emblem (which is too pretty to write in),Gryffindor Quidditch Badge, Deathly Hallows keychain, Deathly Hallows bangle (My favourite) and a gyffindor badge string (Maybe something modern day Gryffindors would be told to wear around their neck at all times of the school day). In case you are wondering, the Hogwarts Express ticket was not included. It is something I got at a Comic Con two years and initially I wanted to use it as a bookmark but I didn't want it to get lost or ruined so I just kept it with my books and it has finally been of some use today. I played around with my camera to try and get some tumblr-ish photos(I tried) of the items and here's how they turned out.

It was my birthday last week (3rd of October) and I had anticipated many outfit changes and had a good number of possibilities in mind. I wore this outfit to brunch on my birthday where we had some really good Italian food and desserts. I'm always super pumped about autumn dressing since my birthday falls in this season and gives me an even bigger motive to go shopping and buy a lot of new clothes.
Huge Stationary Haul Feat Blippo
October 7, 2015 • haul, lifestyle, stationary
I have a confession to make. I am a closet( not anymore I guess) stationary hoarder and I have been known for being unable to pass up things that are way too adorable for writing to-do lists and notes on. This is my long overdue back to school stationary haul that I wanted to share with you. I love seeing stationary photos and I have a long list of things I'm coveting. I could get my hands on most things that I was looking for except maybe some funny quote engraved wooden pencils. I need to look for some good ones.
I was kindly sent these four items from BLIPPO, which is a new website I've recently discovered for kawaii stationary supplies and I found myself scrolling on the website for hours. There is just so much stuff to choose from. The items from top to bottom, left to right are:
1. Blue Kawaii Pill Box* - For storing pills, medicines and I think I'd even store hair ties and bobby pins in there.
2.Animal Note Stickers* - They're basically post -its and freaking useful around the house or when you're studying but I'd prefer these over the boring yellow ones.
3.Pegasus Ball Pen* - This one's a no brainer. I always lose my pens but this Pegasus one can make them stand out among other pens and won't lose it as often. I got this one in pink(of course).
4.Chocolate Mirror and Comb* - A handy purse/school bag essential in a cute chocolate like packaging and again in pink. I don't know how much I'd use the comb honestly, but the mirror is super useful.
Some other stuff I have picked up for myself are a Notebook and Notepad in matching floral patterns for note taking and just to plan out my blog posts from Top Draw. There are some cute ones at ZAZZLE available with changeable covers. They are also having a 10% off sitewide sale on there.
Next up was some Kawaii coloured pens which came with a bottle container which makes it so easy to store and some Tiffany blue polka dotted washi tape.

Plaid and Bling

I wanted to look autumnal with some deep reds, mustards and the likes paired with some knee high boots but that seems like a distant dream for now. This is the outfit that seemed appropriate for this in between/ annoying weather.
